Questions regarding PHP on performance and advantages to move to Plesk

Hi,

Currently, I'm using my FreePgs account for file hosting, and have turned off PHP months ago. But for the past few days, I have been thinking of using PHP to limit file download; I would like to know if turning it on would, in any way, affect its performance as a file host (file access speed, download speed etc.). And would it be acceptable if I exceed the daily data transfer limit for a few days, but compensate it by transferring lesser data on the following days? And, would I get a notification or an immediate suspension if I do exceed the limit?

I remember the admin had mentioned that he removed BWMon because it had a notable negative impact on server performance. Is there any other way which I could track the amount of data transfer in my account per day?

And if I'm not mistaken, existing FreePgs accounts can be moved into a Plesk server upon request. So, what are the advantages of doing so?

EDIT:
I have just seen this thread (3 posts at this point in time):

So, would it be correct to say that it would be better to transfer my account into a Plesk server for the purpose of file hosting?

I think if you exceed your bandwidth limit, your website just doesn't work, and gives a "user exceeded bandwidth limit" error, I think..

I think if you request server logs to be activated on your account bandwidth monitoring will come back on for you. Other than that, I don't think freepgs is doing any tracking of bandwidth...

If you are just using the service for file hosting, it may not make a difference which server you use.  Enabling PHP on your account will not slow down file transfers in most cases.  We can enable the bandwidth monitor feature on your account by enabling your "raw access logs" feature.  It does cause a strain on the server when all users are being monitored, but there is no problem with a few being monitored at a time.

Some have reported faster speeds via the Plesk server, while others have not.  [This just depends on your ISP and the connection they have back to Level3 Communications].

Thank you,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Is there a way for me to compare the file transfer speeds of both servers? And will I be able to exceed the daily data transfer limit when needed occasionally after logging is enabled?

Yes, use the Contact Form and request to create a Plesk account.

The Plesk system will allow you to exceed your bandwidth limit (it will just email you stating that you have exceeded the limits)

Thank you,
