550 Can't check for file existence

every time i upload a file it says 550 Can't check for file existence before i upload the file it uploads it fine I'm just wondering why I'm getting this error, I'm using smartftp

Does this only occur with SmartFTP or with others as well?

I just checked with Command Prompt and it's not giving errors. I'm on a computer that I can't download to right now, so I can't check Filezilla.
