The sites I make are generally in Frontpage. Now generally with Freepgs I have to upload them 4 files at a time, but I have a lot of files I need to be uploaded... In Frontpage this can be overcome by pressing "Publish site" and it will do all the work for you. What I need to know is can I do this with Freepgs? It would be a great help if I could. Also if I can do this with freepgs, what are the details I need to put in the publish web box? (I really do have no knowledge of that sort of stuff.).

I'm not sure what version of frontpage you're using, so I'll just give you instructions from my version :)

File -> Publish Web

In the dialogue that pops up it asks for the publish destination. This will be the freepgs ftp server (ftp://ftp.freepgs.com

Click OK and frontpage will look up your site to be sure it exists.

A box will pop up asking for username and password, this is your freepgs username and password.

After it connects (it may take a minute, and if you have a firewall you may get a warning, it's safe to unblock frontpage) a box will come up with files with green checkmarks beside them, click on "publish" and all of your site's files should be uploaded.

Let me know if you need more help :)

Remember that some features, such as the FrontPage visit counter, will not work on this server. They require the FrontPage Server Extensions, but very few hosts have them.

Unless you used the goodies that FrontPage provides to count visits, create a forum or show the "last modified date", you don't need to worry. If you used them, there is a bunch of other free alternatives that are easy to add.

Thanks! This is so useful. Oh and Frontpage's counters never work for me so I never use them anyway.

Edit: Ah... I am using 2000 I think by the way.
It asks for the server name and destination, I take it that ftp://ftp.freepgs.com would be the destination, what would the server name be?

Also is it possible to publish it to a sub-folder (like freepgs.com/mysite/subfolder/)

brainiac744

I'm not 100% sure because I don't have a copy of Frontpage 2000 to look at, sorry. I did find this tutorial that may be helpful to you though: http://www.microsoftfrontpage.com/content/articles/pub_fp.html

afarrpg

Do you know what freepgs' server name and destination are?

brainiac744

I'm guessing that server name may just be there to help you remember what site it is...for destination I'd put the FTP server, and for server name I'd put the url to your site (http://www.freepgs.com/<username>) and see if that works.

afarrpg

I think the server name has to be the actual servername of the freepgs ftp server,
It says "If you do not know what the ftp server name or directory path is contact your admin".

brainiac744

I see, then for server try putting the ftp server, and for destination try putting http://www.freepgs.com/<username> and see if that makes it happy. :)

afarrpg

Sorry for being complicated.. But if I put a web address in the ftp server name it only keeps the first part (if I out http://blah blah it goes to http, if I put www.blah blah it goes to www, same with ftp://)...

I know I'm probably annoying you a bit...

brainiac744

You're not annoying me. Can you take a screen shot of the dialogue box that you're putting your info into?

afarrpg

brainiac744

OK, try this:
in the top box put: http://www.freepgs.com/afarrpg/runescape
in the second box put: ftp://ftp.freepgs.com
and in the third box put: runescape

afarrpg

Hey... It's finally working! I tried what you said but that didn't work, it turns out I had to remove the ftp:// from the start of the address :) Hopefully this will work.
