I have asked before and didn't get an answer but how can i host a phpbb forum on this thing.
when it comes to hosting I'm fairly illiterate.

Ben

Just unzip the files, upload them, and run the installer.

You'll have needed to enable PHP on your account and have created a MySQL database in the options panel before you install it though.

Ok all is well accept for "Please ensure both the install/ and contrib/ directories are deleted"
i deleted them and the whole thing just fell apart and i had to restart.

brainiac744

Well, that's not good. Is it working now? If not what error do you get?

Mob

brainiac744

I don't see any errors (of course I can't look at the admin cp).

It looks like the admin CP was not uploaded or that phpBB isn't well configured. AFAIR, the phpBB Admin CP is located at (address of the forum)/admin

I tried that address, then I am redirected to http://www.freepgs.com/mob/fpgs/fpgshttpd/SA/login.php?redirect=admin/index.php&sid=[...]

Obviously, freepgs.com/mob/fpgs/fpgshttpd does not exist as /fpgs/fpgshttpd is the path on the local system.

Hmmm, perhaps it's getting that from the "script path" entry in the config file. Maybe I was mistaken in assuming it meant the physical path on the system...

Indeed. I just read that in the phpBB user guide.

The script path was incorrectly set. It should be the path in the URL and not the path on the local system.

Instead of
QuoteScript path:    /fpgs/fpgshttpd/YOURUSERNAME
It should be
QuoteScript path:    /mob/phpBB2/

The easiest way to fix this (unless you are comfortable with editing the phpBB config files) would be to delete the tables (or the whole database if there is nothing else in it), remove phpBB, then recreate the database and install phpBB properly.

brainiac744 sorted all this out for me on msn and he was so helpful it was amazing.
At one stage i accidently gave him my password but since he hasnt used it against me and i would higher him as helper or something any day of the week.
