91  FreePgs Related / Support Requests / Re: Some assistance do with directories and linking to files in th on: February 17, 2006, 02:17:26 AM
okay, well i just created a few new directories for my layouts(linkware)and im trying to link to the images and pages from my root directory into the pages in my new directories.

For example:
one directory is "divs" and the page im trying to create inside of it is called "divlayers.php". Im trying to make it have the same layout as the pages in my root directory have. I use the php include code to include the header and footer(layout codes)codes into the pages but i can't figure out how to link to images and pages in other directories.

like for images ive tried this:

and for links:
<?php include('root/header.php'); ?>(for the header and footer)
<?php include('/header.php'); ?>
<a href="root/divs/divlayers.php">۞ Div - Layers</a><br>
<a href="/divs/divlayers.php">۞ Div - Layers</a><br>

it never works.....please tell me what im doing wrong and what i can do to fix it.

are you from a differen counrty than US/Canada? Because I dunno what this: ۞ is, I see a weird circly thing.

I take it you're a litte new to HTML? You might wanna delve more into it before you really try PHP, Simply because PHP is useless if you don't have an understanding of the visual output. PHP Processes everything but we still use HTML to display everything.

for linking: Either use the full http:// address or put "./" In front, like this:

<a href="./Directory/file.php">Blah</a>
< a href="">Blah</a>

Also PHP include can't include images. You need HTML to display an image:

<image source="http://directoryofimage.gif">

If you try to incude an image you'll just get an error because PHP will read the image and try to somehow include it (as in text). You could include a page that displays an image but that would be silly, don't rely too much on include try to use as much HTML as possible and only use PHP when you have to, Using PHP beyond it's needs and just doing everything in it is, in teh long run, a waste of resourses and time coding.

OMG thank you so much for solving my problem!!! Wow your good...i mean that was alot of code to look at and figure Thanx!!

loll thanks. do you need me to give you the background iameg I used ? You can probably get it from looking trhough the code o nmy page. There is a better solution I'm sure but for now what I did works and is very easily taken off.

I'm trying to install board program, but during the installation process, I got "Table Creation Failed." I'm not really sure what's going on.
I already created DB. I think it should be working, though. I'm not really familiar with php/mySQL. Can anybody help me install this thing?
You can browse to
Much appreciated.

well for some reason or aother it wasn't able to make teh table it wanted to. this could have been caused by a bad password somewhere along teh line or perhaps you input teh wrong table name. Which board system are you installing?

took me a while to figure out what you were asking for, I think you provided a little too much information. Anyway I think I can help but it's gonna take me a while to look at all of the code you posted so hold on...

I notice that your screenshots are from C"Documents and Settings

Could you giv eme the URL to your site so I can physically see this?

you rely to much on CSS, you really don't need to be stretching these they don't match up. you need a BG image that can repeat and match with them...

Anyway I sorta fixed both of your problems via Table Nesting.

thanks ... I thought that not including the full path slowed down the server.  Thanks again.

That's only if it's not in the directory you're in. If you're including a file that's IN that directory it's fine but if you're grabbing from somewhere else use the full path.

May I make a suggestion? Include the full path anyway but as a Variable.

That way if you move to a different server you can just go through and change that variable once instead of finding every "include" And changing the whole path.

As to your error message:

try removing all those extra spaces, especially between the < and the ?

try <?php include("/fpgs/fpghttpd/hotbox/sidebar.php"); ?>

OH That's your problem, you have teh path wrong dude, it's fpgshttpd.

It's <?php include("/fpgs/fpgshttpd/hotbox/sidebar.php"); ?>

why's your site called Black Book personals? Izzat a major ad or something?
97  FreePgs Related / Support Requests / Re: PHP include not working? on: February 13, 2006, 04:31:56 AM
yeah spaced in between <? and ?> are bad, it only registers as php if you use the explicit "<?" and "?>" tags. It's not something you can just space. If that doesn't solve teh problem contact teh admin, the rest of your code is perfect.

yes it does. I'm guessing it's not freepgs though. It's like a hiarchy of titles where the URL comes first, then the title. Maybe try putting large spaces to one side of it to push the part out, I really don't know.

You can't "push it out". It is a security feature at the level of the browser that can't be removed (unlike the name of the browser, who can be hidden with a lot of spaces).

In firefox it prefixes it with the site url

To be more precise, Internet Explorer 6 SV1 (Windows XP Service Pack 2 only) does the same thing.

Must only be on those windows because nothign else does it. Perhaps if you had a domain name it'd display that. No one ever looks up there anyway.
99  FreePgs Related / Support Requests / Re: php File writing help on: February 10, 2006, 02:01:00 PM
$myFile = "testFile.txt";
$fh = fopen($myFile, 'w') or die("can't open file");

$stringData = "Bobby Bopper\n";
fwrite($fh, $stringData);

$stringData = "Tracy Tanner\n";
fwrite($fh, $stringData);

Thats just an example of a file writing script i have on my page. I have already created that file "testFile.txt" and put it in the same directory as the php script but I cannot seem to get it to work.

Anyone have any ideas?

That's very strange because I just copied teh code you gave me and it worked just fine, I made a .txt file with "Bobby Bopper
Tracy Tanner" printed in it.

For some odd reason any popup generated from my site (which i used as a design, not an advetisement) seems to come up with a title pre-fixed with ''. This hasnt happened before. Does anyone have insight on this?

to check it out.

Does the content in the Pop-Up have a <title> Tag?

   <title>.[ Phoenix Reborn ].</title>

yes it does. I'm guessing it's not freepgs though. It's like a hiarchy of titles where the URL comes first, then the title. Maybe try putting large spaces to one side of it to push the part out, I really don't know.

thank you so much
i think u answered my question!!! Cheesy

Yup, just make file in your MAIN (ROOT) Directory called error404.php OR error404.html and go to your settings and turn 404 error page feature on ( CLICK HERE† ). -Make sure you set that scripting option to what your page really is (.php or .html)
102  FreePgs Related / Support Requests / Re: MySQL Organizing Output, LIMITING??? on: February 01, 2006, 04:41:07 PM
Umm I think you can do LIMIT 0, 30

thatís to start from the first record and go to the 30th and u use a loop to increase the 0 by on page 1 it will be from record 1 - 30 page 2 will be record 31 - 60 etc.

My version is a little longer than it could be but it works for me so

Well that sounds cool. Lims worked on my Shoutbox Script when I used IDs (that were key, auto increase) But for some reason limit won't work for me here. :C When I use it  get no results, it doesn't limit anything. The only way I've even been able to limit the amount of display on 1 page is through a while loop and an increasing variable. Maybe you could give me your version, I don't mind how long it is.
103  FreePgs Related / Support Requests / Re: MySQL Organizing Output, LIMITING??? on: February 01, 2006, 10:36:41 AM
uh sorry to double post but this is really important because I still haven't found an easy way to do this.

I want it to be like this forum, there are tons of threads, but only 20 a page are listed.

I keep my gallery image info with MySQL and the user can list it by username, date or keywords.
104  FreePgs Related / Support Requests / Re: Can't delete files or folders, Please help! on: January 29, 2006, 11:50:19 PM
there is no 0777. when you did that it probably cut the last character off and you chmoded to 077, I don't even know if that exists normaly but I'm assuming 0 means no rights and YOU are that first place. I dunno what to tell you, it meant 777, not 0777.

Actually, the UNIX chmod tool and the PHP chmod function request a four digit mode like 0777. The first digit set the execution mode and the sticky bit, while the three others are, as you know, for the owner, the group and then everyone. I'm not sure about the FTP protocol, though.

oh well whenever I chmod with dreamweaver for coffecup FTP it only asks me for three.
