Support Requests / Re: can't see the website with my URL
February 20, 2008, 07:20:33 AM
Is there anything wrong with this URL: http://plesk.lvcs.net/httpdocs/sccc/SCCC%20April%202007/index.htm?

According to SmartFTP, the index.htm file for my web site is found at the end of that URL. But still not working.

Okay, there is an issue somewhere.

Dreamweaver and SmartFTP have been fine when uploaded to FreePGS but are not doing too well at the moment.

...You'll need to put files in the appropriate httpdocs directory, and name the home page file index.htm (or html, or php, etc.). Are you still having issues uploading with dreamweaver?

I think there is an FTP issue.

Dreamweaver stops responding almost shortly after connecting to the Plesk server and I have to close it using the Windows Task Manager

I am trying to upload the file with another program called  SmartFTP.

Here is the "dialogue" of SmartFTP's connection attempt:

Support Requests / Re: can't see the website with my URL

I just removed the "sccc.freepgs.com" domain and created a "southerncrosscruiserclub.com" domain and tried browsing to it. I just typed "www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com" and the following message was displayed on a Plesk server default page:

Server Default page

If you see this page it means:
1. hosting for this domain is not configured
or
2. there's no such domain registered in Plesk

What you can do:

Using Plesk, you can create domains with web hosting on a single physical server.

If you want southerncrosscruiserclub.com to point at the plesk files you'll need to add it to the domains, NOT sccc.freepgs.com.
So I can delete the "sccc.freepgs.com" domain and create a "southerncrosscruiserclub.com" domain in Plesk? We never had to do this on the Freepgs servers. The "domain" (I suppose that's what it is called) was created automatically - I think - and in my case it was "http://sccc.freepgs.com". The URL to my web site was "http://sccc.freepgs.com/SCCC_Site/index.htm", which seemed simple enough to set up.

QuoteIf you are just redirecting from southercrosscruiserclub.com (which is what I gather you were doing), then you should just set up the freepgs.com domain name and keep redirecting the southercrosscruiserclub.com domain as you were before.
I would have tried this if I could get the URL to work. :) I uploaded the web site to the "plesk.lvcs.net" web server into a folder called "sccc_web_site" itself located withing the httpdocs folder.

I keep associating the "freepgs.com" domain name with the soon to be defunct (31st of March) freepgs server where my web site is resides. Why keep using the freepgs name? I think this adds to my confusion. :) I would have thought the migration instuctions would tell us to set up a "username.plesk.net" domain rather than a "username.freepgs.com" domain. Out with the old, in with the new. :)

QuoteFrom your other post I gather that you've changed the nameservers now though, so if you did that you'll need to add it to your plesk account.
If I kept the "NS1" and "NS2" nameservers, wouldn't they cease to exist at the end of March? I only changed the nameservers thinking I needed to do this before the end of March if I wanted to keep a web presence - which I current don't have because I can't get it working. :) I changed the nameservers to "PLSK1" and "PLSK2" as instructed in the FAQ but maybe those FAQs don't totally apply to my situation? I dunno. I'm a bit lost, hehe. :)

QuoteIf that is too confusing (it may be, sometimes I don't know how coherent my answers are),
Your patience with the likes of me is much appreciated. I am just having trouble getting my head around it all. I am not exactly the brightest spark. :)

Quote...then your best bet would be to just use the help desk within plesk to ask for assistance, and one of the admins will get your troubles straightened out.
Yeah, I'd better get cracking because my site has been down for a couple of days already and I'm getting 'phone calls. My fault, I should have got it up 'n' running on Plesk first. Didn't think it would be much trouble. All I had to do - I thought - was upload my site via FTP to the httpdocs/sccc_web_site folder and refer my GoDaddy registered "www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com" domain name to "http://sccc.lvcs.net/sccc_web_site/index.htm". It didn't work out because I can't seem to upload a the web site without Dreamweaver freezing up half way through it and I can't seem to work out what the URL is.

Thanks for yous response here and in the other post. :)

For your other domain...
Are you referring to my "southerncrosscruiserclub.com" domain?

Quote...you'll need to add it specifically to plesk also...
So I have to create a physical host in the Plesk console?

Quote(i.e., in addition to the sccc.freepgs.com domain)...
Why do I need to keep "sccc.freepgs.com" if I create a "southerncrosscruiserclub.com" domain in Plesk?

Thank you for your suggestions. I hope I can get it up 'n' running soon. :)

You need to request for your sub-domain ressikan.freepgs.com to be added on the plesk, just request thru the Helpdesk inside the Plesk CP. Thats only if you still want to use your FreePgs URL.

If you want to use your own domain you should add domain inside Plesk CP then set the required space to be used for your domain www.ussprospero.com. Take note that your FreePgs URL has separate disk space from your domain, so you should think of it.

My www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com domain is just a registered domain name and no web space for hosting. I use the GoDaddy registered domain name of www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com to refer people to wherever I am actually hosting the web site - which has been FreePGS for several years now.

I pretty much followed the original poster's actions. I requested migration from FreePGS to LVCS and received an email containing the following information:

"A new domain has been created in Plesk.
Domain name: sccc.freepgs.com
Client owner: #####: sccc
Domain IP: ##.###.###.### shared"

Next I logged into the Plesk management console here: https://plesk.lvcs.net:8443/

Next I created a domain called "sccc.freepgs.com", which I thought was a bit weird because I thought it would be something like "sccc.lvcs.net".

Lastly I uploaded my web site in Dreamweaver's FTP facility to this FTP address: plesk.lvcs.net

This is the folder I used to receive the uploaded data on the new plesk server: httpdocs/sccc_web_site/

If I try to navigate here: http://sccc.freepgs.com/httpdocs/sccc_web_site/index.htm without an error page popping up.

(I'm falling asleep as I type this. Will have to get back to it tomorrow. It's just that some people in the bike club will start whining to me. My fault for not setting it up before changing the nameservers and trying to refer www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com to a new URL that wasn't.)

Support Requests / What is my Plesk URL?
February 18, 2008, 03:09:42 PM
Hello, :)

I think I've done as instructed - I put in a migration request then received an email saying a new domain  had been created. This domain was sccc.freepgs.com, which baffles me because I am migrating away from the freepgs server. Why not automatically create sccc.plesk.lvcs.net as the domain?

Anyway... next I created a new physical domain and named it "sccc.freepgs.com". So now I am not sure how many domains I am supposed to have. First LVCS automatically created one for me called "sccc.freepgs.com" and then I created another one myself also called "sccc.freepgs.com".

Freepgs was so much easier to use. My freepgs URL is "http://sccc.freepgs.com" and the URL to the web site they are hosting for me is "http://sccc.freepgs.com/SCCC_Site/".

I am not sure what my current URL should be and I when I try to upload my web site via FTP to "plesk.lvcs.net/httpdocs/sccc_web_site" Dreamweaver freezes moments into the upload. When I click on the "Test Connection" button in Dreamweaver, it tells me it connected to the web server successfully.

I think uploaded my web site to the httpdocs folder within

I've got the www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com URL, which is meant to point wherever the web site is being hosted.

I can't seem to work out what my URL and whenever I try to upload my web site to the plesk.lvcs.net in the httpdocs folder the application crashes.

I set up a "domain" of sccc.freepgs.com in Plesk and changed the two nameservers to Plesk1 and Plesk2 on my GoDaddy domain name account. I think I carried out these instructions as described in the migration FAQ, but I can't seem to navigate to http://sccc.plesk.lvcs.net.

So, can anyone tell me what my URL should be? I need to point "www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com" - my GoDaddy domain - to the new Plesk hosted URL and work out why Dreamweaver keeps freezing up when try to upload my website.

Thank you. :)

It seemed so simple before with FreePGS.

I think the terms used are leaving me in confusion.

I thought the "Domain Name" in my case was "www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com", which I registered with GoDaddy, yet I read of more domains with Plesk.

I simply want to upload a web site to the web space provided by LVCS and point "www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com" to wherever it is the actual web site is hosted.

I don't really know what a "NameServer" is and I don't remember having anything to do with NameServers when I pointed the www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com domain name to the FreePGS web space.

I was migrated over and i have no clue how to work that system at all. I have no idea how to point my domains to the new system. I have no clue how to transfer all my old files from freepgs over and I have no clue how to ftp in.

Hell yeah, me too. :) I am totally lost at the moment.

I've already got a domain name with Godaddy (www.southerncrosscruiserclub.com) that points to the soon to the extinct freepgs web space but it seems to be a requirement in Plesk to set up a domain... so I did, which is sccc.com but this is not a real domain. I don't know what it is actually - a kind of virtual domain maybe for administrative purposes?

Anyway, I set up a web user inside sccc.com called "seamus", but I'm still just poking around on the control panel in my ignorant fashion.

All I need is a place to host a website that allows FTP and PHP for the site's Guestbook.

Confused at the moment. Will take a look at that link in a previous post. :/

Hello,

I think it's all fixed.

I had to make the posts folder and the data.txt file writeable, while the rest of the files and folders were CHMODed to "755".

Thank you.

Hello, :)

I'm trying to get Guestbook and a "Members Chat Room" up 'n' running on the FreePGS server.

When I test the Guestbook the following error messages are briefly displayed:

Any help would be appreciated, thank you. :)
